Danny.Liu@Usa.Net Why aren't there any digital watches.

I have a 1971 Seiko DX 17 jewel day date watch. I've had this since I was a kid. It is an automatic with a nice feel overall. The gripe I have is that it can't be wound, so I have to shake it to get it wound.

One of the annoying aspects of many watches I like is based on size. Seems all too often that I come across a watch I like only to find it is too big for my taste and with the trend of bigger watches it will only get worst.

On my casio Dee & Ricky watch it is too easy to press the light button when youmove your wrist up.

Also, have a timex where the bezel does not turn or have lumin pointers

The watch i most hate is my Bank Managers Vintage seiko !! The reason= He looks at it every 2 minutes when i have an appointment with him !! I think the Golf course awaits him and his cronies .....:¬)

I am annoyed by watches with bands that are tiny compared to the watch, with most watches being bigger it looks awkward.

One of my watches has a rubber strap that must be cut to size your wrist. This is fine with me, except that it has no micro-adjusters, just marked out sections to cut off. Before, it was a hair too big. I cut off one more "link" and now it is a hair too tight.

I've got lots of watch annoyances! First, why can't there be a standard battery size for watches? They're all 1.5 V; why do you need 20 different shapes?

Second, why cant someone make a good sailing chronograph?

No matter how well sized, and no matter how beautifully engineered, any watch band with a rigid clasp will not fit perfectly in the course of a day, as the wrist naturally expands and contracts with activity or climate change.
Why not incorporate a length of an expanding scissors or twist-o-flex type band in place of the clasp?
One size really would fit nearly all, perfectly.

My annoyance is pricing. Although I completely agree that watches are worth their value, I just don't get paid enough to afford all of the ones I so desperately want. Like this one.

However, I just keep saving!

I am not a fan of the modern "fancy" watches that have a wrist strap on them that is as wide or nearly as wide as the watch is. I've mostly noticed it on cheaper watches (under a grand), but price notwithstanding, I can personally do without such a design. We watch folks, we are a picky bunch - but therein lies the fun & style that allows us to appreciate quality timepieces.

I am annoyed most by mechanical watches with stems that are difficult to grasp and manipulate.

The thing i hate the most are faded bezels, then again they look the best IMHO

My big annoyance is that the automatic watches are largely unable to store the month and the do not know when the month has less than 31 days.

My only gripe with watches is their addictive properties. Once you try one good one you're hooked and need more all the time.

My wife says I need help and my friends look at me funny. I have to admit...... I AM A WATCH ADDICT!!

My number one annoyance is that most watches do have Atomic Sync and Solar Panel, but now Illumination for the Dial.

Kind regards, fjordgrau

You can see that the hands have lume paint on them but it only last for like 3 seconds after you point the watch directly into the sun. Can't we have classy looks and function?

I'm annoyed by watches with overly thick bezels which result in a small, hard-to-read, cheap-looking face.

My biggest pet peeve about watches is the whole market vs retail pricing. It makes it a lot harder to figure out what a watch is actually worth and whether or not you are getting a good deal. I've seen watches with "Retail Values" of $700+ for under $100. Less educated buyers think they're getting a great deal when really these are just not good watches.

I hate the very long lug length on some of the new large dive watches. They just do not work for me.

The thing that annoyed me most is the BIG watch trend. I had a small wrist almost like an lady wrist (I am a guy). I am not comfortable trying to wear watches that anyway larger than 40mm.. Felt like I strapping some kind of brick on my wrist?

My current top annoyance is watches that are too thick. I like a large diameter watch, but I don't like wearing a tuna can. It's impossible to fit some watches under long sleeve shirts.

My number one annoyance on a watch are rubber straps that have that weird "cheap rubber" smell and start to crack after only a few months.

Lack of hacking feature is annoying. And what is with the Japanese automatic movements that cannot be wound using the crown??

Being a long time member of the Boat Shed and having rowed for Brisbane Grammar in my day I would be proud to wear such a great watch with such time essence and a chrono to boot. Movado appears to be moving in good dirrections and is appearing more often on my forums so good work and may the gods be with me

Fine scratches on my crystals annoy me, as well as tiny winders that are difficult to wind.

First of all, this is an impressive list of complaints. I'm already tired of reading a dozen of them. My personal complain is that I love watches, but still being a teenager I can hardly save up for a good one. However, everything can be achieved with patience. Anyway, I also wanted to say that this is a great blog and I love to read the reviews. Thanks and here is to my new watch.

I have a love-hate relationship with my Movado. Standing alone, it's a perfectly nice time piece. And it can really dress up a suit. At the same time its Museum face is now so commonplace that the watch has become something of a soul-less bore.

Its the Stepford watch, but an indispensible better choice some days than my more interesting, less common "character" watches.

What's a chronophile to do?

My watch annoyance... is that I don't seem to have enough of them!! :-D

my biggest annoyance is supposed dive watches with little or no lume, or just bad lume compound, if your going to put lume markers on the watch, use something that will actually glow...

Don't get me wrong, I really like self-winding automatics, but I'd like to see more traditional hand-winding mechanical offerings.

Surely something has to said of tourbillons with dials that are totally illegible? I thought that the tourbillon made the watch more precise yet what's the point if you cant read the time, thats annoying.

faces that have hands in low contrast to so reading at a glance is reading at glacier speed.

Smelly straps. A lot of nice watches come with cheap rubber or trendy NATO straps that get really funky very quick.

C'mon, a leather strap is only a few dollars more.

I love unique designs on watches but only when it is obvious it is a "watch" and not some weird machine you are wearing. My biggest grip is when it is pretty obvious a watch manufacturer has taken inspiration for the watches they offer from a successful watch currently for sale.

Those watches that have dates, many are so small that it is quite hard to read the numbers, especially when it gets into the double digits.

Overly complicated dials annoy me. I want a watch that keeps time not look like a fighter jet.

I hate the way they give you a white tan line!

I don't like that watch bands don't fit very well. Some are not adjustable enough to fit me in the morning and in the evening.

I don't like it when the metal watch band will rips out hairs out of my wrist!

Ah, there are so many things to chose from... My biggest complaint though is hard to read dials. I want to glance at my watch and know the time, not stop and read it. A lot of current watch designs are hard enough to read that it is probably safer to text and drive than read the time and drive.

Hello,

I'm considered about Swatch watch crystals. I'm talking about plastic. I think, that is totally stupid. It scratches from low-touch.

I hate it when I'm walking through a doorway and catch my watch on the frame and then the spring bars that hold the band on get bent! Then the end links wobble around and look sloppy and sometimes the band will fall off.

I get annoyed with the huge size of some of the current watches. It just seems so pretentious.

My #1 annoyance is the attitude of Tag owners. Yes, they are a nice watch and expensive. But they seem like they are everywhere. It's like Tiffany jewelry on school girls. It used to be a sign of class and elegance. Now it's just common.

I get annoyed when John Biggs does all of his crazy accents on the podcast! And I appreciate all of the good information from you, Mr. Adams! Keep it up. And thanks for the giveaway.

Inaccurate quartz second hands and watch faces to busy to read. Hope to snag a solid automatic soon.

My annoyance is giant blinged out watches that look like they came out of a 50 cent vending machine. Seriously, nobody needs to wear something like that.

The expense of watch winders! Someone could sell a million winders if the abandoned the fashion statement and focused on functionality. A G-Shock of winders!
